Dan's Air Conditioning has been in business for 72 years and is now a 4th generation owned company. The family business was started in Hawaii in the year of 1950, by the owner and patriarch, Daniel Castro Sr. Daniel worked at Pearl Harbor during and after World War II as a refrigeration apprentice mechanic, he then became the supervisor for the air conditioning & refrigeration maintenance division at Schofield Barracks for the United States Army on the island of O'ahu.

By 1982, he employed 2 of his sons, Daniel Jr & Dennis, a daughter, Diane, 2 grandsons, William & David, his wife Virginia, part-time grandsons Justin & Shane, several employees and a sales representative. The business offered apprenticeship as well as on the job training and had grown rapidly with 5 service trucks on the road specializing in commercial air conditioning and refrigeration. Dan's Air Conditioning also had a vast preventive maintenance program serving the entire O'ahu island.

In 2002, Daniel's grandson and great grandsons moved to New York and expanded the business by opening a another branch and included heating. David and Shane Castro are Universal Technicians certified by the EPA, they both own and run the New York branch of Dan's Air Conditioning & Heating LLC located in Rochester.
Daniel Castro Sr. opened his business part-time while he was employed by the Federal Government. When he retired he expanded the business by opening his work shop and office at 1400 Kapi'olani Blvd.
